Each of those reasons by themselves could send you down its own path. When you have many that are divergent paths, how do you decide which way to go?
I have found a way to tackle things that I refer to as "percolating." Here's how it works: think about it in short bursts, but in different contexts. Pick a question and roll it around in your mind while you do a routine activity. For me, walking the dogs is a perfect time.
So pick your question:
- What is it about that thing grabs your attention?
- Why is it affecting you?
- How is it affecting you?
- What about it would you like to keep? change?
- Do you feel compelled to do something now that you've thought about it?
- What would be your real motivation for action? Once you acted, then what?
- Is it worth talking to others about? For what end?
Over and over in my life I have been served well by practicing this "percolation" technique.
And so I'm doing it again now. I've over 50. I have no kids under 18 at home anymore. I'm beginning to think about retirement options. The election was a complete disappointment to me, and I'm disgusted with our political system and hypocrisy. I learned things about myself and others that I wish I had not, but nonetheless have. Now that I know it, what do I do with it? about it? for it?
Now that I'm here, how do I find satisfaction and enjoyment from time spent. What shall I spend it doing?
I'm going to begin with simplification, down-sizing, non-consumerism. Eliminating things and the focus on things from my path. I want to experience, not own.
So one awakening down, and many more to come.
Cheers!
